Substance Abuse/Dual Diagnosis Treatment

While there are many programs that offer primary substance abuse treatment, Margie favors programs that focus on the whole person, including treatment of associated mental health and attention to learning challenges which may have contributed to a young adult’s decline in functioning. After initial treatment in a hospital, outdoor program, or other treatment facility, the breadth and extent of a client’s problems may determine whether a Young Adult Transition Program with focus on maintaining sobriety is the best option or whether a program that focuses more intensively on substance abuse recovery is warranted. Margie’s experience with co-morbid disorders allows her to work collaboratively with the client, family, and primary treatment team to determine which level of service can best assist the young adult in learning to live a sober life while beginning to resume the life that was put on hold due to the substance abuse.
